A Thunderous Trailer

"A Sound of Thunder" is a soon-to-be-released film starring Ed Burns and Ben Kingsley. Based on a short story by Ray Bradbury, "Sound" tells the tale of a time travel safari that goes horribly awry. To see a preview, click here.

No Accountability

Whatever happened to meting out justice in a fair and impartial manner? Apparently the concept was lost on the prosecutors who recently cut a deal with Mark French.

French was arrested last year and charged with seven counts of possessing child pornography. Detectives who appeared at his door with a search warrant saw him downloading the photographs off the Internet. Yet under his plea agreement, he won't go to jail. His 30 days of "confinement" took place in the comfort of his houseboat. He won't even have to register as a sex offender. Why?

Perhaps because French is the former sheriff of Pierce County, Wash.

Picturesque Protest

A flashmob/workshop will be held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 1 at the Ballard Locks to discuss and "protest" the recent harassment of a photography student who had the temerity to take pictures of passing boats and trains for a class assignment. Other people were not bothered by authorities, only the brown-skinned guy. FMI about the event, click here.

Tricksy Maui

I Am Maui
You love life and you're determined to live to the fullest. You use your bag of tricks to protect those you care about and to teach those who mess with you and yours a lesson, but you're not unreasonable. You enjoy hanging out with good friends or being out in nature. Like the Hawaiian Trickster Maui, your amiable nature fools those who think you're an easy target. You're not.

Quote of the Day

"There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun."
--Pablo Picasso
