"Ground Zero Museum Workshop, the "Biggest Little Museum in New York" in NYC's Meatpacking District, is looking for a weekend tour guide candidate to train. Needed for Fridays, Saturday and Sundays on a regular basis. Average shift is 6 hours. Candidates should have excellent memorization skills, be personable, friendly, well-groomed, self-motivated and a quick learner. Theatrical performers with experience addressing groups a plus. Training is 3 weeks minimum, including the memorization of historical 9/11 script that cannot be paraphrased. $13.00/hour salary + guests often give tips to guides at end of tours. Holidays needed (closed on Christmas Eve, X-Mas Day and New Year's). Must be dependable and punctual. Please do not stop by without an interview appointment. If you do not have strong ability to memorize script quickly and also no experience speaking to groups of 20 or more (not so much public speaking but Historical STORYTELLING), please don't apply. Guides also handle gift shop sales, some very light phone work, computer work, closing duties (light cleaning) and lifting book boxes. A very cool, non-stuffy work environment but also can be hectic at times in dealing with guests...This is a rewarding job and an excellent opportunity for someone looking to have a unique and cool job and also make a difference in visitor's lives. Those who were severely traumatized by the events of 9/11 and who would be adversely affected by such a work environment are encouraged not to apply."
