"Applicants must have excellent communication skills and a willingness to interact positively with the Zoo staff and guests. Applicants must be able to work effectively in a team environment and possess good organizational skills. A degree in animal science or related field is preferred; equivalent experience may be substituted. Six months of animal experience and caretaking is required. The qualified individual must have experience with daily care and maintenance of animal enclosures. Experience with reptiles, hoof stock and avian species is preferred. The qualified individual must be able to perform all necessary cleaning duties, keep detailed records and observe animal health behavior. The applicant will also be responsible for learning basic maintenance. He or she must be able to work in a variety of climates, often spending a majority of the day outdoors. Applicant must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. This position will include weekends and holiday work. The qualified individual must be able to function as a team member as well as under limited supervision.
